Compassionate Legal Guidance
Understanding My Passion for Estate Planning

Holli K. Houston
My legal career began after graduating from the University of Michigan Law School in December 2004. I returned to my hometown of Eugene, Oregon, where I built a practice defending lawyers in malpractice lawsuits – work I continued after moving to Portland in 2008. In 2012, I joined the Professional Liability Fund as a Claims Attorney, devoting my practice to investigating attorney negligence claims and, critically, finding creative solutions to fix mistakes before clients were harmed. I found this work deeply stimulating and rewarding.
In 2023, I moved from Portland back to Lane County to be closer to my family. I now live with my husband and two dogs in Eugene, near my son, parents, and sister and her family.
In 2024, I began to reconsider what I wanted out of my career and for my life. I recognized that there are a declining number of practicing lawyers in Oregon, and there is a shortage of estate planning and probate attorneys in the middle and southern Willamette Valley, and along the coast. Places like Coos Bay and Bandon are often described as “legal deserts” because of the shortage of attorneys serving those areas. Furthermore, my personal experience raising a child with a disability has given me a profound understanding of the psychological weight on parents and caregivers.
I know firsthand how crucial – and daunting – planning for a secure future can be. These realities and experiences inspired me to build a practice where a trusted attorney can provide not just practical guidance, but also genuine peace of mind to families like mine, when thinking about a plan for the future.
My Practice & Community
Having spent the first 7 years of my life in Finn Rock, the McKenzie River Valley also holds a special place in my heart; I am deeply interested in serving the communities in that area.
A Unique Niche: Serving Other Lawyers
While focused on transitioning to estate planning, I found myself reluctant to entirely give up my work with attorneys. Only a small group of attorneys in Oregon provide legal ethics advice and disciplinary defense work. My extensive experience working with lawyers through some of the most difficult times in their professional lives uniquely positions me to help other lawyers navigate complex ethical situations. So, while my website does not devote much time to this area of my practice, if you are a lawyer tackling an ethical quandry or facing a Bar Complaint, I can help.
At my core, I am a problem-solver. I find it immensely rewarding to use my skills and expertise to help people resolve their problems, questions, and disputes so their lives can move forward.
I would be thrilled to put my experience and dedication to work for you.
